Terrazzo comes in 4 main forms, these being terrazzo tiles, traditional cement in-situ, resin terrazzo and our rapid poured terrazzo.
Poured terrazzo offers incredible flexibility, hardness, and shrink-free application, and unlike traditional in-situ, can be laid in any sized area with no need for joints.
With a huge selection of colours, and beautiful aggregates, Terrazzo is a naturally hygienic finish because of the final polishing and grouting processes. With a selection of binders to offer fantastic flexibility, moderate chemical resistance, or stunning patterns, this is probably the best value floor of all.

Other types of Terrazzo
Traditional In-Situ Terrazzo
Cementitious in-situ terrazzo is a hand finished screed laid between 10 and 25mm. It is a blend of pigmented cement, chippings and water. In-situ traditions came from Italy, dating back to the 12th century, and require specialist knowledge to lay. Due to cement shrinkage, when designing an in-situ floor, control strips (or 'bays') must be planned in. Distances between control strips vary depending on thickness of screed, reinforcement and substrate. Most common materials for the strips are brass, stainless steel or aluminium. Cementitious in-situ terrazzo is suitable for indoor or outdoor use, although slip potential must be considered.
Resin Terrazzo Floors
Resin Terrazzo (a.k.a Terroxy) is an alternative system using epoxy, polyurethane or MMA as the coloured binding matrix. Using resins as opposed to cement, gives the end user a different range of installation options. For example, resin terrazzo doesn't contain any water thus will not shrink meaning no regular expansion/control joints are required. Resin terrazzo is also very fast setting with the MMA option curing in up to 2 hours. Unfortunately there is a pungent solvent smell with this product, but it allows for fast track installation and foot traffic during the same day. Resin also has a high chemical resistance and without regular joints makes it an ideal seamless option for pharmaceutical and food factory usage.
Terrazzo Tiling
Premfloor have experience over a wide variety of terrazzo tiling projects. Terrazzo tiles come mainly in two different thicknesses, being 28mm or 15mm. The underside of the 28mm tile is uneven, but since they are normally bonded into a fresh sand-cement screed, this unevenness is irrelevant. The backing can be ground off to produce a calibrated tiles of 15mm. and these can be laid straight into adhesive. Finishing of either system is by means of grouting, grinding and sealing. Terrazzo tiles are selected in supermarkets, airports etc due to their extreme durability and ease of replacement.
